Chennai Super Kings Hit by Major Blow as Jamie Overton Ruled Out of IPL Season

Chennai Super Kings have suffered a major setback in the ongoing season, with English all-rounder Jamie Overton ruled out due to a thigh injury. The franchise confirmed that the player will return home and miss the remainder of the tournament.

Overton had been one of Chennai’s most dependable performers this season. In 10 matches, he contributed 14 wickets and scored 136 runs, while also making an impact in the field. At a time when the team struggled to find consistency in pace bowling, the English all-rounder emerged as a key figure in the squad.

His absence now raises fresh concerns for Chennai’s bowling combination in the crucial final phase of the league. Apart from his effectiveness with the ball, Overton also delivered valuable runs in the middle order and impressed with his athletic fielding displays. Chennai had signed him for ₹1.5 crore during the 2025 mega auction and retained him for the same amount ahead of the 2026 season. Fans had celebrated his rise as one of the side’s most reliable all-rounders before injury cut his campaign short.

Injuries have continued to trouble Chennai throughout the 2026 IPL season. Veteran star MS Dhoni has not played a single game so far because of fitness issues. Young opener Ayush Mhatre, who had shown promising form, was also sidelined with an injury. Fast bowlers Khaleel Ahmed and Ramakrishna Ghosh remain unavailable as well.

Following Ghosh’s injury during his IPL debut, Chennai brought in Karnataka all-rounder McNeil Hadley Noronha as a replacement. Australian pacers Nathan Ellis and Spencer Johnson have also struggled with injuries and have been unable to feature regularly.

With six wins from 11 matches, Chennai currently sit fifth in the points table. The team now faces a must-win situation in the remaining fixtures to secure a playoff spot.
